Whole30 - What's it all about?
A good friend recently met up with us for a catch-up. He was on the tail-end of the 30-day food plan, Whole30. No dairy, no grains, (ciao ciao bagels and rice), no added sugar, (watch your fruit intake!!), no alcohol, (see you later champers!), and no legumes, (no peanuts my friends). As he drank his small black coffee, looking healthy and strong, we noshed on a freshly baked croissant and sipped our whole milk, Swedish hot chocolate, (it was fresh and delicious by the way). Clearly we are not the type to do these types of nutritional programs, but we were intrigued. We've made a concerted effort in the last few years to cut back on processed food in our household. It's made a huge difference to our fitness, energy level and the state of our digestive track. But, saying goodbye to whole grains and legumes would be difficult for us on a personal level.
If you get the OK from your doctor and don't have any preexisting major health conditions or a fraught relationship with food in general, it sounds like an interesting experiment. Our friend encouraged us to read up on Whole30. There is a TON out there. While we don't think we will personally be delving into this food plan anytime soon, it was eye-opening; this SELF story from last summer provided an interesting perspective. Talk to a nutritionist and your doctor/therapist team before you make any decisions about your diet. Remember, these people are experts for a reason. Now we have to finish eating our croissant...
