The Case for Behaving Badly
Yes, that is a stitched pillow with famed Cosmo editor, Helen Gurley Brown's famous saying, "Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere". What's the point of this you say? Well, first we liked it and two, we're here to tell you about a beach read book that falls into the same delicious vein of being a little naughty.
Key disclaimer, we have to confess, we didn't fall in love with Hemingway when we first read The Sun Also Rises, the summer before ninth grade. It was probably us and not him. Really.
Fast forward "a few years" and we feel well-equipped to dip our toes back into the Hemingway universe. You may have noticed Everybody Behaves Badly: The True Story Behind Hemingway's Masterpiece The Sun Also Rises as our Book Club Pick. We've just ordered our copy and cannot wait to dig in. Reviewers are going bananas over this intelligent, cleverly woven together masterpiece by Lesley M. M. Blume (who we happen to know through one of our favorites!). Was it all drinks, sex and more cocktails in Hemingway's squad? Well, yes, but there is so much more. Reading about behaving badly has never been so enthralling. (We suspect we'll be enticed to give The Sun Also Rises another go.)
Craving more on the book and the author? Then devour Ms. Blume's recent Vanity Fair piece and NPR interview by Scott Simon's (who, by the way, we adore!) on Weekend Edition. And, don't forget to order your copy of the book immediately along with a sleek chapeau. #BehaveBadly
