City Chronicles: Commuting + Laughter

City Chronicles: Commuting + Laughter

Jumping into a cab at 6-something in the morning is never a fun endeavor, but sometimes early morning meetings are a reality. Who knew that our cabbie would lift our mood in the short ride? As soon as we jumped into the car, our driver greeted us with a hearty "Good morning!" What followed what was one of the funniest exchanges we've ever had in the city. We were headed to a coffee meeting at 57th and 7th, and as we shared our destination, the driver, cried out gloriously, "Oh you're singing at Carnegie Hall this morning!" It took us a second to process the joke. What followed was a commentary on New York traffic, Midtown madness and hilarious passenger stories that ended up lifting our spirits. Laughter really is a magic elixir. Cabbing also helped us avoid the pigeon mafia. There is a rough-and-tumble gang of pigeons that hang out in Central Park, and they enjoy relieving themselves on our work blazers as we power walk under them. (We think they might be in cahoots with the dry cleaners in the city.) To bypass them, we walk a longer route and duck into a French café to get a proper hot chocolate (oh the hardship of commuting). #Citylife
