I'm Gonna Work On My Fitness...
Do you have a fitness/sports bucket list? Skiing was on our list, and we crossed it off this weekend - the experience was more enjoyable because a group of friends went on the journey together. We cheered each other on, and helped each other up when we took a tumble. Having a positive and patient instructor made a world of difference. Trying something new can be scary! But, just think, after burning calories on the slopes, you can enjoy some après ski festivities.
Years ago we remember cancelling a gym membership after we paid extra to take a Pilates reformer class. For the record, we adore Pilates and have since had amazing instructors for both mat and reformer. In this particular instance, the Pilates instructor was utterly unprofessional and mean. When we walked into the class a little nervous and unsure about what to expect, we quickly realized the three other people were regulars and gossip partners with the teacher. The teacher looked us up and down, assessing our bodies (quelle horreur!). She barked orders as she was commanding us to tighten our abs and berated us when we didn't understand the Pilates lingo. We ended up going to three of five classes and then giving up and cancelling that gym membership for a more professional establishment. But, we didn't totally give up. We wanted to try Pilates reformer again and ended up loving it. What's the lesson friends - talk to gym management to get a refund if the class doesn't meet your expectations and also don't get discouraged if a new fitness class or sport doesn't end up as being as easy or enjoyable as you thought it would be. The new experience teaches you things about yourself. Trying new routines and sports makes you grow - Pilates literally adds a couple of inches to your height.
