Expand Your Horizons: The Explorer's Club
We care about the world, nature, conservation work and exploring. In our 20s we were at a dinner party filled with diplomats and journalists. As the conversation circled around the table, one guest explained her role tracking and analyzing tigers around the world. The table fell silent as all eyes were drawn to the articulate scientist. An award winning journalist began peppering her with questions. Eyes went wide as she described months in the field, tracking one group of tigers. We were in awe of her work and the impact it was having. Talk about a cool job.
Sometimes in the hub-bub of city living, we feel detached from the big wide world. As adults, one of the coolest clubs we've gotten to know in NYC is The Explorer's Club. We haven't joined, but it's on our wish list of organizations to get involved with. Its mission centers around the "advancement of field research and the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore." Brilliant. Don't worry if you aren't jetting off to the far flung corners of the world. You can also be a supporter of the club's mission and get exposed, at your comfort level, to the various work being completed. As kids we explore and imagine we are climbing mountains as we jump on piles of dirt, planting imaginary flags. Why not do it for real as an adult? Never stop exploring...
