Music to our Ears: Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle
Living in NYC has its perks - you are so close to thousands of talented musicians every single day. A morning commute through crowded Time Square station can be transformed into a free concert if you know where certain musicians are performing - 42nd Street Shuttle platform has some of the best acts during morning rush hour in case you are wondering. Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, downtown clubs, uptown bars, street corners...music is literally everywhere. There's even a soundtrack to the city depending on what neighborhood you are biking, strolling or driving through.
We were thrilled to discover two seasons of Mozart in the Jungle on Amazon. Inspired by the 2005 memoir, Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music, the show is a feast for the eyes and ears. It features a stellar cast that includes Bernadette Peters and Gael García Bernal. The show centers around a young oboist trying to make her way in the music world while corralling the fiery, new maestro of the New York Symphony. We are currently binge watching Season 1 and can't wait to get into Season 2.
If you are still feeling in a musical mood after watching a few episodes, check out 60 Minutes' Overtime coverage of 12 year-old jazz prodigy, Joey Alexander. If only we'd stuck to our piano lessons...
