Reading a good book has always been one of our favorite ways to relax. Here are two hilarious books, written by two, great women. We guarantee you will be happier after reading these modern gems.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling (2011) is one of our favorite books. We laughed OUT LOUD on a plane reading this. It was like Ms. Kaling was in our heads, regaling us with stories of our own youth. Another reason to love Ms. Kaling is her recent article in Glamour about confidence. People, especially young women, can take her sage advice and laugh their way through her book.
Remember the show Mad About You from the 90s? Well, one of the sensationally talented writers, Maria Semple, (who has also written for Arrested Development!) authored a super funny book, Where'd You Go, Bernadette: A Novel (2013). The story centers on Bernadette Fox, an architect and wealthy Seattleite mom whose husband is a big-whig at Microsoft. For all you West Coasters there will probably be tons of Seattle inside jokes, and for us, East Coasters, it reads like one hilarious comedy sketch after another. After getting to know the neurotic and highly creative whims of Bernadette, the reader turns the page to find out she has disappeared. Her only daughter, Bee, sets out to find her, criss-crossing the globe all the way to Antarctica. What follows is a hilarious soap-opera, comedic tale that we are hoping gets to the big screen one day.
Enjoy. Read. Laugh.
