Guinness is much more than just a pint - Meet In the Midfield's New Puppy!
When we were little, our parents asked us to make a list of what we wanted for our birthday. Every year we dutifully wrote the same top three items, to no avail, on our lined notebook paper and handed over the prized document for consideration:
1) A Puppy
2) A T.V. In Our Room
3) A Landline Phone In Our Room* (This was in the pre-cell phone era!)
Of course, we were grateful for the books, legos and various other delightful gifts we received over the years, but the puppy was part of a lifelong quest that remained unfulfilled. When we were about six years old, our parents tested the waters of getting a dog with one summer of baby-sitting a tubby and happy-go-lucky, guinea pig, Nibbles. He was rotund, easy-going and unbothered by being displaced in our home while his owners traveled around the globe. Unfortunately, one sibling was allergic to dear Nibbles. When he ended up in our room at night by the bunk-bed, his 24/7 drinking habit from his squeaky, water bottle and marathon training on his wheel, kept us up all night. And so, poor Nibbles was relegated to the downstair's foyer where he was subsequently triple-fed carrots by accident (and to his delight) by our parents and the housekeeper. And, as our mother had predicted, she bore the burden of cleaning out Nibbles' wood chips and maintaining his food and hygiene schedule, while we enjoyed the finer moments of life by building Nibbles block mazes to explore and giving him cuddles. And so, at the end of summer, a swift verdict was dealt. It was decreed that any pet, let alone a dog, was too much responsibility for the family to take-on.
Well, the nice thing about being an adult is that you can sometimes do exactly what you want. Some childhood dreams, like buying out the dollar store with one's allowance (yes this was a goal at one point), fade away as you age. But, other dreams burn bright. We are happy to introduce you to In the Midfield's puppy, Guinness, full name, Lady Guinness, born late September 2015. She is a darling Labradoodle from down south and is adjusting to life in the Big Apple. You can follow her adventures here and on our founder's Instagram, @TheZNC. #WoofWoof
