Fall Outing: Apple Picking + Baking
October is drawing to a close so, of course we had to go apple picking in the NY area. We wandered the apple orchard and picked up a mix of Jonagold, Stayman, Braeburn, Ida Red, Winesap, Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples. The on-site staff also advised us to try some of the apples - we dutifully obliged. After wandering around the orchard, we snapped up a box of apple crisp mix and baked our newly acquired fruit when we got home. Ideally, the sweeter apple varieties may be the best, but we mixed up our apples, and it didn't seem to make a huge difference. If you can't get your hands on the apple crisp mix, you can try this apple crisp recipe. If you are short-on-time, warm-up 2 cups of apple cider, add 1 tsp ground cinnamon and 2 tbsp brown sugar, and then drizzle the mix over your apple slices for a quick treat.
