Summer Every Sunday Night - Indian Summers on PBS
Have we mentioned how much we love PBS? A couple of months ago, we were flipping through Travel and Leisure and saw it had highlighted the September launch of a new PBS "Masterpiece Theatre" - Indian Summers. We watched and are totally hooked. It's 1932 India, and the final years of British Colonial rule are rife with complexities. Segregation, rising social discontent, caste complexities, love triangles - we could go on. The show is wonderful because it intertwines stories of the expats and the Indians, told from both the British and Indian perspective. The imagery on the series is delightful - set in Simla, the summer capital of British India, the lush environment only adds to the twisting and turning plot. (Fun fact: the show is actually taped in Penang, Malaysia!) We missed an episode and then excitedly found we could get it on Amazon AND watch it online at PBS - for a limited time only! Dare we say Indian Summers is the new Downtown Abbey? Watch and tell us what you think!
